Primary care prescribing data for typical and atypical antipsychotics

Atypical antipsychotics account for 70% of prescription items for antipsychotics in UK primary care. Quetiapine is the most frequently prescribed antipsychotic (typical or atypical) by number of prescription items and represents the highest spend on antipsychotics. Olanzapine, risperidone, aripiprazole and amisulpride make up the rest of the top five prescribed atypical antipsychotics.

Our quality assured NHS dataset also contains prescribing data for typical antipsychotics including (but not limited to) the butyrophenone haloperidol and the phenothiazines thioridazine, fluphenazine, trifluoperazine, perphenazine and chlorpromazine.
